Mushroom compost is derived from organic materials reclaimed from mushroom farms. Some of these materials include peat moss, gypsum (natural fertilizing mineral), corn cobs, and some manure. Its main ingredient is straw, allowing it to maintain up to 90% of its weight in water. This compost CANNOT be planted directly into and must be mixed into your soil due to its manure component. It is recommended as a mulch but makes a great soil amendment, especially for vegetable gardens.
